🟣 Stimmates® Spotlight

The (Overlooked) Neurodivergent Workforce

👀
Eye-Opening Stat: Only 14–29% of autistic adults in the United States are employed, compared to more than 75% of the general population.

Parents often describe the quiet heartbreak of watching their capable young adults graduate into a world that, in so many words, just isn’t ready for them.

Meanwhile, companies like Ernst & Young and SAP have pioneered neurodiversity hiring programs where the data around inclusivity speaks for itself.

Inclusive teams consistently outperform, with EY reporting retention rates for neurodivergent employees that exceed 90%, and SAP reporting a 30% boost in productivity.

So the question isn’t “can it work?” but “why aren’t more companies doing it?”
☝️
The Co.’s Take: If you’re a business owner, ask yourself: Are you unintentionally screening out neurodivergent talent?

Thinking differently starts with hiring people who already do. Audit your hiring process for barriers like vague “culture fit” language or rigid interview styles. Challenge your assumptions, and you’ll quickly see that hiring people who think differently is simply good for business.

The Trevor Project: A Phone Call Can Save a Life

🌈
Did You Know: LGBTQ+ youth who have access to just one accepting adult are 40% less likely to attempt suicide (Trevor Project, 2023).

The Trevor Project is the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ+ young people. Its programs span a 24/7 crisis line and chat services, peer-to-peer support, and research that informs educators, policymakers, and families.

Their work matters because it literally saves lives. When we respond with compassion toward LGBTQ+ young people instead of rejection, their risk of crisis drops dramatically. That means every adult, whether a parent, teacher, coach, or friend, has the power to tip the scales.

Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among young people aged 10-24.
💡
The Co.’s Take: If one adult can reduce suicide risk by nearly half, why aren’t more schools, teams, and community orgs making this training mandatory?

Behind every statistic is a queer young person hoping someone (anyone) will stand by them. Dismissing our children as “not our kid, not our job” is exactly how the suicide epidemic gets silenced.

Disability Service Backlogs: Families in Limbo

More than 650,000 people with disabilities are stuck on Medicaid waiver waitlists, often for years.

Across the U.S., more than 650,000 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are stuck on Medicaid waiver waitlists, sometimes for over a decade.

Families report spending thousands out of pocket just to cover basic support. For children, every week or month without therapy is a missed milestone; for parents, every delay adds stress that compounds daily.

While policymakers debate budget lines, the lived reality is exhausted families and delayed development for children who may never bridge that gap.

☝️
The Co.’s Take: When we talk about “waiting lists,” we make it sound like people are queued for a concert ticket. In reality, these are kids missing formative years of therapy.

Turn awareness into action. Your voice has the power to hold policymakers accountable so struggling families and children aren’t left behind.

Contact your representative(s) and ask what they’re doing to address essential disability support and waitlists. Even a simple email signals to them that you’re paying attention.
